BLV mgn Cube¶
Open-source 3D printer
The BLV mgn Cube is an open front CoreXY 3D printer that runs on MGN linear rails. It was designed for accuracy, efficiency and print quality, with one simple goal: to let anyone build a good and reliable 3D printer.

Why build it¶
- Fast, reliable, accurate. Most low and mid range printers ride on linear bearings or Delrin wheels because they are cheap, and they give up accuracy and reliability for it. MGN linear rails are stiffer, more precise and much smoother, so the Cube prints fast without losing quality.
- Rigid open structure. The open front is as rigid as a closed cube and still gives easy access to the bed. The design came out of many hours of simulation and physical stress tests. A front belt tensioner keeps maintenance simple.
- Accessible. There are no rare or expensive machined parts. Everything is printed or bought online or locally, and you can use your own electronics if you know how to adapt the firmware.
- Open source. The original STEP files are included. Remix and improve them, and please share your work, mark the parts as remixed and link back to the project.
- Ready to print. Tuned firmware settings and slicer profiles are included. Upload the configuration, load the profile and print.
- Modular. Height and bed size can grow with longer extrusions and rails. A size calculator helps you plan a custom build.
- Honest about the effort. Installing and aligning the rails takes about 70% of the build time. 3D animations, PDF guides, sketches and measurements make it manageable.
- Balanced budget. A top 32-bit board, good motors and reliable sensors, without overspending. The 5" PanelDue screen is optional. A phone or tablet works just as well and saves about $80.

Upgrades. Two official upgrades followed the original design, and both are part of the project files. The Metal Kit replaces most printed parts with CNC aluminum. The Blind Joints frame needs no brackets and assembles in about 20 minutes.
